Low Carb Jam: JJ’s Country Cooking

Since moving to the small suburb of Ladner at the beginning of the year, I’ve really enjoyed having a quieter, more productive lifestyle. The sense of community here is fantastic, and I’ve been able to reconnect with long-time friends more. Today’s awesomeness was visiting the Ladner Village Market for my first time with my buddy Danika, who planned our morning route for us.

My big score today was JJ’s Country Cooking who does a variety of pickles and jams and jellies. All of their jams and jellies are SUGAR FREE, which is music to this low-carb gal’s ears. I sampled the raspberry jam, strawberry rhubarb, strawberry, blueberry, and blackberry jelly. It was really difficult to decide which to get, so I went with raspberry because that is usually my default. As those who have browsed my instagram have seen, I love my low-carb almond flour scones, and I love a good jam to have with them (scone recipe coming soon in a future post).

Most of the jams/jellies are 3 carbs per tablespoon, with the exception of the strawberry rhubarb, which is 5 carbs per tablespoon, and the pepper jelly, 2 carbs per tablespoon. They use stevia as their sweetener instead of erythritol or sucralose, which is what you usually find in most commercially-made sugar-free jams. They also use locally grown fruits and veggies for their products.

I also love supporting local businesses, so I loved this find. Jennifer was our info guru and cash lady today, super friendly and always ready to win our love with more samples to try. John, half of the “JJ,” was there as well, while his wife, the other half of JJ, was at home churning out more jams for us to love.

They are based out of Abbotsford, BC, and even do diabetic food parties on-site for people.
